Ladies -we live in a society that tells us to bear all, flaunt our curves, and be proud of the freedom we have to wear as little as we want. The entertainment world and the media have been giving us the message for decades: sex sells. How much longer will we conform to the patterns of this world just because it's the latest trend or might get us some attention for a hot second? I want to tell the world I AM NOT FOR SALE, I WILL NOT CONFORM (Romans 12:2).
I think most of us can agree that we want a man who will respect us and love us, not fall in lust with us then throw us away the minute we lose their attention. God wants this for us too! God despises lust. As it says in 1 John 2:16-17: “For all that is in the world -- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life -- is not of the Father but of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” So how can we as women honor God and abide by his will when it comes to modesty? The scriptures say it all:
- Timothy 2:9 - "And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes." (NLT)
- 1 Peter 3:3-4 - "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." (NIV)
To my sisters in Christ and the women of ASU, let's dress with dignity and modesty not only to let the men around us know that more effort will be required but that we have respect for ourselves and want to bring glory to the Lord, our God. In bringing glory to Him we will be fulfilled and attract the man God is preparing for us. What do you say ladies - let's reclaim Palm Walk!
